The article discusses the ongoing issue of enforced disappearance in Syria following the fall of the Assad regime. It estimates that around 177,000 people remain missing since 2011, with over 45,000 of them confirmed to have died due to torture and inhumane detention conditions. It emphasizes that the issue has not ended with the change of the regime, and families continue to demand answers about the fate of their loved ones. The path to uncovering these fates requires collecting evidence, developing technologies, and establishing a reliable national information system. The article recommends that Syria join the international convention aimed at protecting all individuals from enforced disappearance, pursue justice, and achieve definitive disclosures of the missing persons' fates. It also highlights the importance of safeguarding evidence and coordinating efforts among relevant entities to ensure families' rights to truth and reparation.
