Reports circulated that the Mayor of Aleppo filed a lawsuit against journalist and activist Abdul Rahman Ismail on charges of inciting murder, due to his posts criticizing the council's purchase of new cars amid difficult circumstances. Authorities clarified that the complaint was submitted electronically and that no arrest or search warrant has been issued against Ismail. The case remains at the level of personal prosecution, while the council president justified the vehicle replacements by citing high maintenance and fuel costs. The case sparked solidarity with Ismail from journalists and human rights activists who are calling for the protection of freedom of expression.
