The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria expresses deep concern over Israeli attacks in southern Syria, which constitute a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. These include raids, arrests, and shelling. The Israeli occupation of most of the Golan Heights has continued since 1967, linked to the collapse of the ceasefire agreement in 2024. At the same time, the Commission affirms Syria’s progress in rebuilding and establishing institutions for accountability, emphasizing the importance of transitional justice to achieve lasting stability. These remarks come as the Commission conducts investigations into violations of international law, despite not having full access to Syria, relying on interviews, testimonies, and analytical materials.
