Germany fails to secure Security Council seat

Germany failed to secure one of the seats in the "Western European and Other Groups" of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term, despite having previously held the seat six times and never having lost an election of this kind before. This outcome came after intense competition with Portugal and Austria, who successfully won the seats.
