Sibling violence: causes and laws
Family violence among siblings in Syria reflects practices related to control and physical and psychological abuse, often driven by a culture of male superiority and upbringing based on obedience. This violence affects girls by decreasing their self-confidence and increasing stress and anxiety, leading to the breakdown of family relationships and widespread isolation. The Syrian legal system faces challenges in enforcement; while severe physical harm is punishable by imprisonment or execution, the absence of urgent protective mechanisms complicates addressing this phenomenon.
