Al-Qusayr Apricot Farming Faces Prospects and Challenges
The Al-Qusayr area in the countryside of Homs is one of the main regions for apricot production. It is cultivated over an area of approximately 63,192 dunams and includes about one million trees of various varieties. The current season's production is expected to reach between 25,000 and 30,000 tons. However, frost and rising production costs have led to a decline in productivity, with prices ranging between 60 and 100 Syrian pounds per kilogram. Farmers face challenges such as low prices, increasing input costs, weak support, and the lack of external markets, all of which negatively affect the sustainability of production and the development of the sector.
