Pentagon Budget Changes on Syria
The U.S. House Armed Services Committee approved amendments related to Syria as part of the 2027 Pentagon budget bill. These included a request for a report on the possibility of Washington cooperating with the Syrian government to reduce Russian influence, an assessment of threats to Russian bases, and an examination of Russia's use of funding to facilitate Iran's activities in the region. The amendment also reaffirmed support for the American policy of establishing a stable, terrorist-free Syria and endorsed the integration of certain Syrian Democratic Forces units into the Syrian armed forces, along with an evaluation of security cooperation programs aimed at building their capabilities.
