Russia considers reorganization of Syrian bases
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that cooperation with Syria is developing significantly, and Moscow is discussing with Damascus the restructuring of its two military bases in the country, including the possible adjustment of the roles of the Hmeimim Airbase and the Tartous Naval Base. It clarified that the cooperation includes establishing a supply and logistics center in Tartous, and that the presence of Russian forces is currently under discussion as part of the evolving relationship following the assumption of power by Syrian President Ahmad al-Shar'a. The two bases are considered essential components of Russia's military presence in the region, with Tartous serving as a maintenance and resupply hub in the Mediterranean, and Hmeimim being a main launch point for Russian activities in Syria and Africa.
