Malicious Chrome Extension Leaks User Data
The Microsoft Defender Security Research Team warned about a malicious addition on the Chrome Web Store called "Search for perplexity ai," which was used to deceive users through a fake domain resembling the Perplexity AI service's name. The extension tracked search operations and collected sensitive data such as search text, IP address, and browser type. It also made changes to browser settings and redirected searches through a fake domain that employed typosquatting tactics. Although it has been removed from the store, it remains crucial to manually delete it from your browser—especially if it is installed on your devices—to protect your personal data.
