WhatsApp usernames raise security concerns
WhatsApp is gradually rolling out a feature to reserve usernames, aiming to enhance privacy and rely on names instead of phone numbers for communication. However, the feature has raised concerns about potential identity theft and online fraud, especially in India, which has the largest user base, with government warnings about increasing phishing and scams. The company is also reserving names for public figures and organizations to protect their rights, as discussions continue about balancing privacy and security.
