Nigeria investigates tech companies' media overreach following South Africa's precedent
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered an investigation into major technology companies, such as Meta, Google, and Twitter, regarding their exploitation of Nigerian media content without compensation, as well as allegations of anti-competitive conduct. This comes amidst growing concerns over these companies' dominance in the market and their use of local media content, along with calls from media publishers to be fairly compensated and not deprived of their financial rights. The investigation aims to assess the extent to which these companies may be violating competition and consumer protection laws, in line with similar regulatory efforts in other countries like South Africa.
