WhatsApp testing new feature to show which people are online on the app
WhatsApp is testing a new feature that displays a green dot next to active contacts on iPhones, aimed at allowing users to know if the other person is available before sending a message. The feature shows the status in real-time and stops when the contact becomes inactive, with privacy measures in place to prevent showing the status to those who choose to hide it. Additionally, the status is only visible when the app is open on the device. The feature is being gradually rolled out to users, as WhatsApp develops a new screen to display a list of friends who are currently connected or recently active, as part of its efforts to enhance presence indicators while maintaining privacy tools.
