Security reports have revealed a serious flaw in some Android phones that allows someone with direct access to the device to use the Gemini assistant from the lock screen to send text messages or WhatsApp messages without needing to enter a PIN code. The vulnerability enables bypassing the lock screen verification step, allowing the execution of tasks that require sensitive permissions, such as sending messages on behalf of the user or reconnecting the assistant to certain apps. This poses a risk if the phone falls into the hands of an untrusted individual. Google announced a security patch to address the issue and advises users to temporarily disable Gemini access from the lock screen and update their systems to protect their devices from exploitation.
