Meta has announced the launch of a new account verification program on Facebook called Facebook Verified. Its goal is to confirm the identities of genuine users and reduce fake accounts created using AI tools. The verification process involves taking a selfie and comparing it with the profile pictures using facial recognition technology. The process takes just a few minutes, is free, and available to users over 18 who adhere to community standards. Once verified, a badge appears on Facebook services, but it does not serve as a trust mark or guarantee of user reliability; it is solely meant to confirm identity. The program will be rolled out gradually starting Monday in a limited number of markets, with plans for global expansion. This initiative responds to the widespread use of fake accounts and the exploitation of AI tools.
