WhatsApp introduces a managed accounts system to help parents monitor their children's use of the app, especially during pre-adolescence. This feature allows parents to control the contacts and groups their child joins while maintaining chat encryption to ensure privacy. A child's account is created and linked to a parent's account using a QR code, with settings that can be customized, such as accepting or blocking contacts and receiving notifications about activities like changing profile pictures or joining groups. Control is limited to managing contacts and groups; parents cannot read the private content of conversations to protect privacy. The child's account is subject to restrictions on certain features and may transition to a regular account as they grow older, with an option for parents to delay this transition. This feature provides vital tools for online child protection while respecting privacy. It is currently being rolled out and varies depending on the market.
