Apple plans to develop a customized artificial intelligence model for the Chinese market in collaboration with Alibaba Group, aiming to enhance its digital experience in China and overcome regulatory barriers. This development is part of its strategy to provide AI advantages within local devices, and it is the first of its kind for a foreign company to receive Beijing’s approval to offer a dedicated AI model in China. The new model intends to increase control over AI tools and meet the needs of the local market, as Apple has lost some of its market share to competing companies like Huawei. It is expected to be launched in the coming months following a system update to iOS. This move is an attempt by Apple to boost its sales and importance in its largest overseas markets, coming after challenging regulatory steps and amid fierce competition from domestic companies.
