NVIDIA has launched a $6 billion deal with the emerging AI company Poolside, aimed at developing open-weight models to compete with advanced Chinese models, such as DeepSeek and Kimi models from Moonshot AI. The deal is part of NVIDIA's strategy to strengthen its competitive capabilities in the open models market, focusing on investing engineering expertise and developing larger, more efficient models, alongside boosting the Western AI ecosystem to counter the rapid rise of Chinese models, which pose an increasing threat to American technological dominance. This move is expected to enable NVIDIA to develop high-performance models and surpass the trillion training parameter mark within the next year.
