Google Enforces New Android App Rules
Google has launched a new plan to tighten app installation procedures on Android phones, aiming to reduce the spread of malicious applications and fraud through untrusted sources. The company began implementing developer identity verification rules on September 30, 2026, in four countries—Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand—with plans to expand globally in 2027. The new measures include linking apps to developer identities and verifying their information, as well as adding security steps when installing apps from outside official stores. Specifically, the option to install from untrusted sources will be enabled only after completing an authentication process and a waiting period of up to 24 hours. Google’s goal is to minimize the risks of malicious apps while preserving the ability to install apps from outside stores through advanced security procedures. Developers will be required to verify and register in order to distribute their applications through various channels. Although the ability to install apps from outside the official stores will not be completely removed, the process has become more complex. The expansion plan is scheduled to be completed by 2027, marking a significant shift in the Android system toward greater security while maintaining a relatively open system.
