Sudan Agrees on Ceasefire and Transition
Major international and African forces are calling for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan and a comprehensive civilian political dialogue to determine the future of governance. The goal is to end the war, which has led to the broadest humanitarian crisis in the world, with 33 million people in need of aid and 20 million suffering from food insecurity. The statement emphasized the resumption of negotiations between the conflicting parties and the strengthening of international efforts to support implementation, while rejecting external interventions that fuel the conflict. It also called for increased scrutiny of foreign military support, strongly condemned human rights violations, and underscored the importance of national unity, sovereignty, and urgent humanitarian response.
