Francis Hazen awarded 2026 Nobel Physics
World-renowned physicist Francis Halzen has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2026 in recognition of his contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos. The observatory, a one-cubic-kilometer ice cube at the South Pole, is used to detect neutrinos resulting from enormous processes in distant parts of the universe, helping to understand the astrophysical sources of these rare particles. This discovery is considered one of the most significant advancements in astrophysics and marks the second Nobel Prize of the season, following the one awarded in Medicine.
