Europe launches tender to reduce cash use in Tunisia
The article highlighted European efforts aimed at enhancing financial inclusion in Tunisia through the launch of an international tender to conduct a comprehensive national survey on the digitization of financial services and the extent of access by Tunisian citizens and institutions to modern digital solutions. The survey seeks to accurately identify existing gaps, particularly regarding the heavy reliance on cash (99% of young people use cash), low adoption of digital wallets (about 8%), the prevalence of dormant bank accounts (41%), and the limited widespread use of digital payments due to administrative complexities and transaction costs. European projects are focusing on providing recommendations to address structural barriers and motivate the state to modernize the fintech sector, with the goal of integrating the unbanked into the formal economy and strengthening the resilience of Tunisia's financial system. Applications are open until October 23, 2026, to establish a strategic database to foster digital transformation and achieve a more inclusive economy.
