US sanctions on ICC after judge's Nobel win
The United States announced the imposition of sanctions on the International Criminal Court, vowing to disrupt its activities, following the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to a former judge there—who had warned of increasing political attacks against her. The sanctions include a ban on dealings with the court, which is described as a "rogue court," but a six-month grace period was granted to member states to allow efforts to alleviate American concerns. The court condemned the sanctions, viewing them as an assault on the rule of law, and several countries and international organizations expressed support for the court in facing the American escalation.
