Tunisian Eco Initiatives Awarded
Three Tunisian environmental initiatives have been awarded prizes by the "Inpa Arab World" Foundation as part of the first edition of the "Michael Philip Krakenel" Prize, launched on July 4, 2026, to encourage impactful, actionable initiatives in targeted regions. The "Soli Green" project received the grand prize of 50,000 dinars. Its goal is to plant 12 million trees nationwide to promote biodiversity and combat climate change, especially after the 2017 wildfires that destroyed thousands of hectares. The "Zigovilter" project was awarded 30,000 dinars and focuses on trapping waste at drainage outlets to reduce its entry into sewage systems. Meanwhile, the "Jeninah Al-Hafsiyah" project received 20,000 dinars and aims to transform the Sidi Mferj Park into a community garden in the heart of Tunis. The evaluation of projects is based on their responsiveness to environmental challenges, innovation level, social and economic impact, as well as their feasibility and replicability. Support includes mentoring to develop initiatives, expand participation, and incorporate projects from other African countries in future cycles.
