Agriculture Ministry on Hail Prevention
The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries condemns the effects of hailstone fall on olive groves and fruit trees, as it causes leaf drop, branch breakage, and fruit damage, with the potential for bacterial and fungal diseases to spread through wounds. The ministry has issued technical recommendations, the most important of which are pruning the affected parts and disinfecting using low-concentration copper-based pesticides, while avoiding intervention during periods of high temperatures or rain. Additionally, it emphasizes adhering to the harvesting schedule before harvesting. These measures aim to prevent the spread of diseases that may result from damage caused by the cold weather.
