Tataouine Solar Plant Funding Raises Concerns
The Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company is preparing to establish a solar power plant in the Tataouine governorate with a production capacity of 50 megawatts, along with a electricity storage system with a capacity of 10 megawatts and 20 megawatt-hours of storage. The project also includes building a power station and transmission lines approximately 8 kilometers long. However, the announced costs for the project vary between an initial estimate of 53.5 million euros and a previous announcement of 63.5 million euros, with no clear explanation for the discrepancy. This difference is likely due to revisions of estimates or modifications to the project's components, which requires a detailed study to compare the figures accurately before determining the final cost. The final cost will become clear after receipt and approval of the financial proposals from participants. This initiative is part of Tunisia’s efforts to boost its reliance on solar energy and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
