Strategies to Prevent Youth Drug Use
The Ministry of Education organized an awareness day at the school level to increase awareness about the dangers of drugs among youth, under the slogan "Your life is more precious than the risk." Although student participation was limited, the initiative sparked discussions about the failure of solely security-based approaches in combating the issue, which has led to a worsening spread of drugs. It is estimated that between 10% and 13% of students aged 15 to 17 have experimented with substances, with widespread use of products like "zatta" (marijuana) and addictive pills. There is now a call for adopting a comprehensive approach that combines preventive awareness, legal measures, and community interventions to reduce demand for drugs and dismantle trafficking networks. Additionally, it is crucial to activate the roles of educational, health, and social sectors in addressing this escalating phenomenon.
