EU and AFD Support Sahara Sahel Climate Efforts
The Desert and Sahel Observatory, with the support of the French Development Agency and the European Union, has launched a project valued at 150,000 euros aimed at collecting and documenting ecological agricultural knowledge and local practices in rural areas along the southern Mediterranean coast. The project focuses on water and soil management, seed preservation, and biodiversity, incorporating an analysis of experiences from Mediterranean countries to improve adaptation strategies to climate change and to strengthen communities’ capacities to face water scarcity, drought, and soil degradation. It also seeks to enhance the integration of this knowledge into public policies, especially considering the important role of women in transmitting expertise, thereby facilitating the implementation of appropriate solutions and broader utilization.
