France protests: hand loss and arrests
Protests across France have erupted against rising living costs and the decline of public services, leading to violent clashes with police. The confrontations resulted in an injury to a protester who lost his hand after an explosive device was detonated by security forces in Saint-Étienne, in a similar incident to an earlier case in Lens. Approximately 272 individuals have been detained in connection with acts of violence that included attempted looting and arson of public facilities, with far-left elements being held responsible. The protests have continued in cities such as Paris, Marseille, Rennes, and Angers, where acts of violence and vandalism have been reported.
