Tunisia Detains 13 Over Gold Trading
Security investigations in Tunisia reveal a network involved in selling and converting large quantities of unknown-source gold, estimated at over two tons over the past six years, into the market through illegal means. Thirteen individuals have been detained, more than 70 kilograms of gold seized, along with nine luxury cars valued at up to 25 million dinars, as part of a case related to money laundering and tax evasion. The data indicate the use of fake companies and suspicious commercial records to obscure the source of the gold, in addition to the possible use of illicit proceeds for real estate investments and appearances of extravagant wealth. Investigations are being intensified to uncover all details regarding the true source of the gold and the origins of the funds associated with the network.
