Iran: Two oil tankers damaged by mines
The mine-laying operation in the Strait of Hormuz resulted in damage to two oil tankers, causing explosions and fires, according to a statement from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. Iran confirmed that passing through the strait without its permission is illegal, and stated that it has intensified its attacks on shipping in order to pressure the United States ahead of the Congressional elections. The Iranian escalation has disrupted oil traffic through the strait, with attacks on vessels increasing since the outbreak of the war in February.
