Pursuing Technological and Defense Sovereignty
On October 15, 2026, President Kais Saied attended the inauguration of the Coast Guard vessel "Kairouan" in Bizerte to strengthen the Tunisian Navy fleet. The vessel is 52 meters long, featuring excellent maneuverability, and aims to secure maritime borders and counter maritime threats. It also supports intelligence, safety, search and rescue operations in Tunisian waters. The vessel was built in collaboration with Tunisian experts and national institutions, with the goal of enhancing naval capabilities, achieving technological sovereignty, and ensuring defense independence. This initiative is part of Tunisia’s broader plan to expand its military capabilities and develop a domestically produced military industry with advanced technologies.
