Tunisia adopts international expertise for 2040 energy plan
Tunisia is working to accelerate its 2040 energy strategy by launching two major international tenders, supported by the National Energy Control Agency and the German Development Bank. The first tender aims to develop a plan to promote rational energy use with the goal of reducing dependence on imported gas and oil, especially in the industrial, transportation, and construction sectors, which have experienced an energy deficit exceeding 50% in recent years. The second tender involves purchasing and supplying electric and hybrid vehicles for the public sector, in an effort to stimulate the sustainable transportation market, ease the support burden on traditional fuels, and enhance the infrastructure for fast-charging stations. These two steps reflect Tunisia’s commitment to its climate responsibilities amid global competition for Europe-backed contracts.
