Syria is experiencing a significant increase in the number of people learning the German language, driven by those wishing to emigrate to Germany or study there. Since the Goethe Institute in Damascus closed in 2012, students have been turning to private institutes within Syria or neighboring countries to take exams. There is also a surge in demand for learning the language among students and graduates, especially in the fields of medicine and engineering, aiming to obtain visas and facilitate family reunification and migration procedures. Despite the challenges, efforts in self-study are growing, along with the use of social media platforms to support language learning.
