Washington pushes Libya plan, Misrata opposes
The United States is seeking to strengthen its initiative in Libya by supporting the process of unifying security and political institutions, through discussions with Libyan officials. This includes enhancing military and security cooperation, despite opposition from some local and regional actors. The initiative centers on appointing Salah Jadara as the head of the Presidential Council while keeping Abdul Hamid Dbeibah in charge of the government, aiming to pave the way for national elections. However, some Libyan political factions oppose this plan. Washington continues its efforts by consulting with figures from both the east and west of the country to reunify institutions, amid ongoing political crisis that has persisted for over 15 years.
