Sahar Ben Sadrine on Vanishing Despotism
The human rights activist and former Head of the Truth and Dignity Commission, Souhaib ben Sderine, was sentenced to 25 years in prison by a Tunisian court. This ruling pertains to the Commission's work in the transitional justice process following the 2011 revolution. Ben Sderine considered it a political targeting, emphasizing that the commission's final report exposed the ugliness of the dictatorship and corruption system, and that the verdict lacks a sound judicial basis. Human rights and political organizations responded to the sentence with differing views; some saw it as a reflection of a retreat in transitional justice, while others believed there are legal reasons behind it.
