A United Airlines passenger plane narrowly avoided a collision with a drone while approaching for landing at Newark Airport in New Jersey. The pilot reported that he coincidentally saw a circular object approximately three feet in diameter flying about 100 feet lower than the aircraft. The airline stated that the plane, a Boeing 737 carrying 106 passengers and five crew members, landed safely after the incident. This event is part of a broader trend, with nearly 100 drone sightings reported near U.S. airports each month, despite the ban on their use in controlled airspace.
