Washington responds to Libyan political efforts

The United States has focused on promoting its own initiative for Libya, aimed at unifying Libyan institutions and achieving stability. This comes amid reservations from some Libyan factions about the potential for institutionalizing quotas or prolonging the transitional phase. American officials affirmed that the initiative is moving toward supporting Libyan-Libyan dialogue and reducing concerns over the division of the country, with no intention of postponing elections for more than three years. They emphasized that Washington's role is limited to facilitating negotiations. The details of the authority, including the names involved, remain in the hands of the Libyans themselves. There is also continued consensus that the initiative is accompanied by a UN plan to address long-term issues.
