Spain's largest migrant settlement process
The Spanish government announced that nearly 1.17 million undocumented migrants applied for legal status in the country as part of an amnesty campaign conducted from April 16 to June 30. This campaign allows them to work and obtain temporary residence permits for one year. Applications were submitted with work permits while processing, and around 160,000 applicants have obtained work permits, while about 11,000 individuals have received one-year residence permits so far. The government emphasizes that the amnesty program focuses on integrating migrants into the labor market and contrasts with deportation policies implemented in other countries, amid divided public opinion in Spain regarding the program.
