Israel is working on establishing a new airport called "Tseklag" east of Netivot, with the first facilities expected to become operational at the beginning of 2028. This project is part of a plan to ease the pressure on Ben Gurion Airport and to strengthen the aviation infrastructure, despite criticism regarding its proximity to the Gaza Strip borders and Air Force training areas, as well as disagreements with local councils. The project competes with the plan to build Ramat David Airport in the north, with the possibility of reconsidering or canceling one of them depending on how the implementation unfolds. Meanwhile, Ben Gurion Airport is experiencing increasing passenger traffic, with record numbers and projections indicating an increase to 40 million travelers by 2040.
