French President Emmanuel Macron made an official visit to Damascus, the first of its kind since the ousting of Bashar Assad's regime. He began the visit with a formal dinner in Old Damascus, hosted by Syrian President Abdul Halim Khaddam. The visit holds significant diplomatic importance given the changing political landscape in Syria and the resumption of communications with the West. It is likely that discussions will cover future cooperation prospects and regional issues during the talks, before he heads to Ankara to participate in the NATO summit.
