PM: Punishing students won't fix issues
The article focused on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reaction to the protests that took place across the country last month. He emphasized his desire to pardon the students who chanted offensive slogans at him, criticizing the legal penalties imposed by authorities on them. Modi explained that punishing them and forcing them to appear in court would not help resolve the crisis, pointing out that offering guidance and advice is a better approach to achieve reconciliation. The protests led to arrests and legal cases against hundreds of students, but the government responded by filing lawsuits against the protesters and introducing a new law to strengthen penalties for exam leaks. The protests ultimately ended with the resignation of the Education Minister and the government’s response to calls for reform.
