Ceuta experienced an unprecedented wave of migration involving tens of thousands of migrants. The crisis is considered part of an attempt by human smuggling networks to organize migration operations in order to disrupt national security, according to geopolitical expert Amin Sosi Alawi. He explained that the organized disinformation campaigns on social media aim to strain relations between Morocco and Spain, but bilateral cooperation helped contain the crisis and prevent it from escalating. He also believes that its impact on the bilateral relations is limited and that the situation is now largely stable. Additionally, he pointed out that some European parties are exploiting the crisis for political gains, especially by far-right groups calling for increased border surveillance and a reconsideration of the Schengen Agreement.
