The article addresses the crisis that took place in the city of Ceuta in July 2022, when tens of thousands of illegal migrants attempted to cross the city’s border fence, leading to a significant influx and disruption of the security situation. Many of the groups were repelled back to Morocco, with approximately 48,000 migrants returned according to official statements, while estimates suggest the number could reach up to 60,000. Spain responded to the surge by strengthening its security measures, installing barriers and preventing similar incidents from recurring. Meanwhile, other European countries called for increased coordination and a unified stance to confront future waves of migration. This situation subsequently heightened tensions between Spain and Morocco, with the Spanish government reaffirming that Morocco remains a trusted partner and that the crisis was a natural reaction to security and migration challenges. Officials emphasized that the situation has not yet reached a state of full stability.
