Trump reports breakthrough on Gaza
The article discusses U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement that Hamas has reached an agreement to completely disarm in Gaza, a significant step toward establishing lasting peace in the territory after years of conflict. The report notes that Hamas has conditioned its agreement on Israel ceasing fire and targeted killings, withdrawing its forces to the "Red Line," and deploying a multi-national international stabilizing force to oversee disarmament. Hamas also emphasizes the need for Israel to fulfill its obligations before beginning disarmament steps, including halting military operations, with heavy weapons remaining stored under the supervision of a national committee. Israel's reactions have been mixed; some officials have expressed reservations and conditions, and there has been rejection from the right-wing coalition, alongside initial Israeli moves to deploy limited international forces in Gaza. The article underscores that achieving lasting peace depends on all parties fulfilling their commitments, particularly since Israel still refuses a full withdrawal from the sector before complete disarmament. The process requires a clear sequence ensuring Hamas and Israel adhere to its stages.
