Egyptian army renews anti-mining efforts
The Egyptian armed forces announced the commencement of the second phase of an extensive security campaign to combat illegal gold mining in the Eastern Desert. This follows the results of the first phase, which led to the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and equipment used in mining operations, as well as the apprehension of infiltrators without legal documents. This campaign comes after videos circulated showing stormy weather in the areas of community-based mining near Egypt's and Sudan's borders. The objective is to intensify patrols and raids in regions of illegal activity.
