Moroccan Interior Ministry cites misinformation in influx to Ceuta and Melilla
The article reveals that the recent events at the crossing points of Ceuta and Melilla stem from multiple factors, most notably digital disinformation campaigns, activities by human trafficking networks, and distorted interpretations of legal frameworks—particularly following Spanish judicial decisions that limited the immediate return of irregular migrants. These factors have led more than 41,000 people to attempt to cross into the two cities, resulting in 11 deaths—one accidental death and ten drownings—mainly due to unsafe crossing attempts, especially by swimming. Moroccan authorities confirm that they have taken proactive measures to manage the situation, including monitoring operations and increased preparedness. They have also pledged to continue combating irregular migration, verifying the accuracy of the figures, and maintaining cooperation with Spain to restore normalcy.
