Satellite imagery shows Ceuta coast developments
The city of Ceuta has witnessed a sharp increase in attempted illegal crossings from Morocco, as thousands of people gathered on the beach adjacent to the Tarajal crossing in an effort to reach the city. The number has risen from around 60,000 individuals over two days, according to Spanish officials. In response to the influx, floating barriers and maritime lines have been established to enhance surveillance and border protection, following the installation of a 500-meter-long rubber barrier through Spanish legal procedures. These events have resulted in the deaths of at least 72 migrants, either by drowning or being run over during their attempts to cross the sea or the wave barrier, amid heightened security alerts and regional concerns. Search and rescue operations are ongoing to find potential victims.
