Syrian Reactions to Shariah Interview
Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharif spoke on the program "Al-Muqabila" about his personal and ideological journey, clarifying his entry into Iraq in 2003 to defend the Iraqi people. He mentioned that he spent five years in prison under a pseudonym based on his father's name. Al-Sharif emphasized that he does not regret his past, which includes partisan work and clashes with the Islamic State (ISIS), considering his history as part of Syrian heritage. He expressed pride in his transformation from a hunted individual to a head of state welcoming world leaders. He also pointed to a significant ideological shift in his path, moving from jihadist rhetoric to institutional building, viewing this as a corrective step toward constructing a new Syria.
