Cuba Suffers Another Power Outage
Cuba is suffering from ongoing power outages, as the state-owned electricity company revealed that the energy grid collapsed late Sunday, leading to a nationwide blackout. This outage follows three incidents in July, amid increasing American pressure that includes imposing an oil embargo, putting intense stress on the aging infrastructure—especially with the suspension of fuel imports from Venezuela and Mexico. The electricity shortage has caused significant difficulties for the population, who are forced to use electricity during the hot summer without any guarantee of how long it will last. Meanwhile, the government is attempting gradual reforms to attract foreign investments and improve the energy sector, but results will take time, and the current phase is expected to be the most challenging.
