Mecca Alliance Discusses Regional Issues
The article focused on the recent military escalation in Yemen, where the Yemeni government, backed by Saudi Arabia, announced the launch of a wide-scale military operation to counter the advancing Houthi movement supported by Iran. This comes in particular after the Houthis seized a major port on the western coast and threatened international navigation in the Red Sea. This escalation coincides with a high-level meeting in Riyadh involving officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan to discuss regional developments and strengthen security cooperation within the framework of the Mecca Defense Pact. Additionally, Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia are intensifying, including targeting oil facilities and ships in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, further disrupting trade movements and the protection of international energy supply routes. These events are part of the ongoing conflict that began in 2015, which has resulted in the death of approximately 377,000 people, with UN efforts to de-escalate intensifying since the ceasefire announced in 2022.
